Lecture procedure

For an overview, please find below a fact sheet detailing the following procedure available for download.

  • Half an hour before the start of your lecture,  Event Services will do a technical check with you in the Aula (KOL-G-201, 359 seats including galleries).
  • 15 minutes before the start your colleagues and representatives of UZH will welcome you in the Faculty Room (KOL-E-11 / directions (PNG, 294 KB)). Subsequently, proceed to the auditorium.
  • As an introduction, a representative of your faculty will speak a few words (approx. 5 minutes).
  • Afterwards you will have around 40 minutes left to give your lecture.
  • If you have planned an apéro, it will take place after the lecture in front of the Aula or in the Lichthof.

Our  Team Inaugural Lectures is happy to assist you with any remaining questions.

Important notes

The lecture hall computers have not been available since the beginning of July 2024. Please bring your own device and a suitable charging cable for the presentation. This device should have an HDMI port. If no port is available, please equip your device with an HDMI adapter as well as a spare adapter from a different brand. You may bring a digital presenter if needed (laser pointers are legally prohibited)

Technical trial run

We recommend organizing a technical trial run in the auditorium before your inaugural lecture. As optimal preparation, you can test the technical components with the Team Event Service.

Please contact the Room Allocation Services team as early as possible (ideally before the start of the semester) to arrange a date for this.

Introductory speech

The introduction will be delivered by a faculty member, typically by the dean or vice dean. Please contact the relevant dean's office for the organization of the introductory speech - preferably right after your inaugural lecture date has been confirmed by the organizing team. Please inform the introductory speaker that the speech can last about 5 minutes and should include at least the following points:

  • Greeting, including the mention of the presence of the UL representative (if present)
  • Introduction of the lecturer, academic background

Additional topics can be added, there are no further regulations regarding form and order.

Decoration

The event service places an elegant bouquet of artificial flowers next to the lectern prior to the lecture. Upon request, we can provide you with photos so you can get an impression. If you desire a different flower arrangement, feel free to contact the Inaugural Lecture Team. You will receive the necessary information to organize the flowers.
